These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of the Subtitle Downloader & Editor browser extension (the "Extension") and the related website at subtiltee.com (together, the "Service"). By installing or using the Extension, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
How we handle your data is described separately in our Privacy Policy.
The Extension lets you retrieve subtitle tracks that a video player already exposes on supported streaming platforms, edit them, convert them between formats, and optionally translate them. It does not download video or audio, and it does not decrypt, bypass, or circumvent any digital rights management or technical protection measure. It reads only subtitle data that the player itself makes available for display or accessibility.
The Extension is intended for personal, educational, and accessibility purposes — for example language learning, studying dialogue, personal note-taking, or making content usable for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers.
Subtitles are the copyrighted work of their rights holders. We grant you no rights over them. You are responsible for ensuring that your use is lawful, and in particular you agree:
We do not monitor what you download, and we do not host, store, or distribute any subtitle content. Responsibility for how you use the retrieved files rests entirely with you.
You can use the free tier without an account. Paid plans require one. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Accounts are personal — sharing an account or its session across multiple people is not permitted, and we may apply technical measures to enforce this. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us.
The Extension is free to use, subject to a monthly download quota. Certain platforms and features may be excluded from that quota. Paid plans lift the quota and unlock additional features.
We may change the quota, the feature split between free and paid, and our prices as the product evolves. Changes to a recurring price will not apply to your current billing period: we will notify you in advance, and the new price will apply only from your next renewal, at which point you are free to cancel.
Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard; cancellation stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate partial periods.
"Lifetime" access is a one-time purchase that lasts for the operational lifetime of the product, not the lifetime of the purchaser. It means no recurring payment for as long as we maintain and operate Subtitle Downloader. It is not a guarantee that the product will be operated indefinitely. If we ever discontinue the Service entirely, section 8 applies.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card number. As a French auto-entrepreneur, VAT is not applicable — art. 293 B of the French General Tax Code.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. For digital content delivered immediately, EU law (Directive 2011/83/EU, art. 16(m)) provides that this right is lost once performance has begun with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose it.
This is how the Extension works in practice. Before your first paid download, the Extension asks you to confirm explicitly that your subscription takes effect immediately and that your 14-day withdrawal right ends when you access the content. Your paid download does not proceed until you tick that box. We record the date and time, the version of the text you accepted, and your IP address and browser user-agent, as proof of that consent.
Accordingly: once you have given that consent and used a paid download, the purchase is final and no statutory withdrawal applies. If you have not given that consent and have not used any paid feature, your statutory 14-day right is intact and we will refund you in full on request.
Beyond those rules, we may issue a refund at our discretion as a gesture of goodwill — for example if you were charged in error, charged twice, or if a defect on our side prevented you from using the Service at all. Contact us and we will look at it in good faith. This section does not affect any mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of your country.
The Extension works alongside third-party streaming platforms that we neither control nor are affiliated with. Those platforms change their players, their formats, and their protections without notice, and any such change can break a feature or an entire platform overnight. This is inherent to this category of tool.
What we commit to: we actively maintain the Extension and we make reasonable efforts to repair breakages promptly, at no extra cost to you, and to ship those fixes through the browser stores as soon as they are ready.
What we cannot commit to: we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we cannot promise that any given platform will keep working, that a fix is technically possible, or how long a repair or a store review will take. Support for a platform may be reduced or removed if maintaining it stops being technically or legally viable.
The Service is therefore provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. A subscription buys access to the Extension as it exists during your billing period — it is not a guarantee that a specific platform will be supported for the duration of your plan. Please take this into account before buying, and especially before buying a yearly or lifetime plan.
That said, if a platform you rely on breaks and we determine we cannot restore it, contact us — see the goodwill provision in section 5.
Optional features rely on third parties: translation providers you select (DeepL, OpenAI, Google, Groq, OpenRouter) and our payment processor Stripe. Their availability, pricing, and terms are outside our control, and their own terms apply to your use of them. If a provider changes or withdraws its service, the corresponding feature may change or stop working.
We may add, change, or remove features. If we ever discontinue Subtitle Downloader entirely, we will give reasonable advance notice, stop charging recurring plans, and — for an active subscription or a recent lifetime purchase — offer a fair pro-rated refund or a reasonable equivalent.
We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, in particular by sharing an account, attempting to circumvent quota or payment, or using the Extension unlawfully. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the Extension.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data, or loss of profits arising from your use of the Service, nor for any consequence of a third-party platform changing or blocking access. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your mandatory consumer rights.
The Extension, the website, and their content are our property and are protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Extension under these Terms. You may not resell, sublicense, or reverse-engineer it, except to the extent that such restriction is prohibited by law.
Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Prime Video, Max, and Apple TV+ are trademarks of their respective owners. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. Their names are used solely to describe compatibility.
We may update these Terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new "Last updated" date and, where they significantly affect your rights, announced in the Extension or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform. We would much rather solve any problem directly — please write to us first.
