1. Information We Collect

Account & Billing

When you create an account or subscribe, we collect:

• Your email address (used to create and authenticate your account).
• Payment information, processed exclusively by our payment provider Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregated usage events (for example: extension installed, a subtitle session started, a subscription completed) to improve the product. This data is not tied to the content of what you watch.

2. Audio & Subtitle Processing

To generate verbatim subtitles, VerbatimSubs transcribes the audio of the video you are watching and, optionally, translates it. How this data is handled depends on the engine you use:

• Cloud Speech-to-Text (Whisper): audio segments are sent to our processing service to be transcribed into text. Audio is processed transiently to produce the subtitle and is not stored or retained after transcription.
• Cloud Translation (LLM): when translation is enabled, the transcribed text is sent to our language-model provider to produce a contextual translation. Text is processed transiently and is not used to train models.
• Local Mode (Ollama): if you enable local processing via a self-hosted Ollama instance, translation happens entirely on your own machine. In that case, the corresponding text never leaves your computer and is never sent to us or any third party.

We do not record, store, or build a history of the videos you watch or the subtitles that are generated.

3. How We Use Information

• To provide the transcription and translation features of the Extension.
• To manage your account, subscription, and access rights.
• To respond to support requests and communicate service updates.
• To detect abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.
• To improve product quality using anonymous usage analytics.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers strictly necessary to operate VerbatimSubs — namely our payment processor (Stripe), our cloud infrastructure providers, and the speech-to-text / language-model providers used for the cloud engines described in Section 2. Each processes data solely on our behalf to deliver the service.

5. Data Retention

Account and billing records are kept for as long as your account is active and as required to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Audio and subtitle content processed by the cloud engines is transient and is not retained after the subtitle has been produced.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction or deletion of your data.
• Delete your account at any time, which removes your associated account data.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data using reasonable safeguards.
