Thank you for using Subtiltee, a browser extension designed to help you master a foreign language through the subtitles of your favorite series and movies. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we store and handle it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information:

We collect the following personal information when you sign up or make a purchase:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Payment information

Non-Personal Information & Product Analytics:

We use a self-hosted analytics service (PostHog, EU region) to understand how people use Subtiltee so we can improve the product. We use cookies to enhance your experience and understand how you interact with our services.

Product Analytics

We use a self-hosted analytics service (PostHog, EU region) to understand how people use Subtiltee so we can improve the product. We are committed to being minimal and transparent about this.

What we do NOT track:

Subtiltee is loaded on demand: it does NOT run on a streaming page until you explicitly activate it. As long as you have not activated Subtiltee on a video, we have zero visibility into what you are watching.

• We do not collect your browsing history or track shows or movies you watch without using Subtiltee on them.
• We do not record keystrokes, mouse movements, or screen captures.
• We do not track activity on websites unrelated to Subtiltee.

What we DO track inside Subtiltee:

Once you actively engage Subtiltee on a piece of content, we record events to understand feature usage and conversion flows:

• Extension installs and updates.
• Feature usage (hover translation, chatbot, word definitions, subtitle search, rollback, auto-pause, adding tracks, marking words as known, etc.). Basic context: we attach the streaming platform you are on (e.g. "netflix") and the show title, season, and episode number for the content you are actively studying with Subtiltee.
• Whether you saw a sign-in or upgrade prompt and whether you clicked it.
• After sign-in, your account email is used as the identifier to connect your usage across the extension and the website. Before sign-in, we use an anonymous random string.

Why we collect this:

• Analyze feature usage internally to decide which features require more investment or improvements.
• Troubleshoot usability problems and improve the sign-up flow.
• Understand conversion paths so we can improve onboarding and pricing.

This analytics data is for internal product development only. We never sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

Your rights:

• You can request a copy of the analytics events or personal data we hold for you by emailing us.
• You can request full deletion of your account and data.
• If you enable Do Not Track (DNT) in your browser, our website analytics will respect it. To opt out of in-extension analytics specifically, contact us and we will exclude your identifier from future collection.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your collected information strictly to:

• Process your orders and manage your subscription.
• Provide, operate, and maintain your account.
• Communicate with you regarding updates, bug fixes, or important information related to Subtiltee.

3. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

Storage & handling: All personal data and account information are securely stored and handled using Supabase, which provides robust encryption and security measures. Security: We implement standard security protocols to protect your data, and all communication between the extension, our servers, and third-party APIs is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Retention: We retain your account data and analytics for as long as your account is active; if you request account deletion, all associated personal and analytics data will be completely removed from our databases within 30 days.

4. Data Sharing and Third-Party Processors

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or unrelated third parties. We only share necessary data with strictly vetted providers: Supabase (secure database hosting and authentication), Stripe (payment processing), and PostHog in the EU region (product analytics).

5. Your Rights

6. Children's Privacy

Subtiltee does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete such information immediately.

If we update our Privacy Policy, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account.
