Thank you for using Subtiltee, a browser extension designed to help you master a foreign language through the subtitles of your favorite series and movies. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information:

We collect the following personal information when you sign up or make a purchase:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Payment information (processed securely through our payment provider)

Non-Personal Information:

We use cookies to enhance your experience on our website. These cookies help us understand how you interact with our services and allow us to improve them.

Product Analytics

We use a self-hosted analytics service (PostHog, EU region) to understand how people use Subtiltee so we can improve the product. We are committed to being minimal and transparent about this.

What we do NOT track:

Subtiltee is loaded on demand: it does NOT run on a streaming page until you explicitly activate it (by clicking the extension icon, or by enabling Subtiltee for a site you authorize). As long as you have not activated Subtiltee on a video, we have zero visibility into what you are watching — we cannot see the title, the episode, or even that a video is playing. We only collect analytics from the moment you actively use Subtiltee on a piece of content. Anything you watch without activating Subtiltee stays completely outside our analytics.

• We do not collect your browsing history.
• We do not record keystrokes, mouse movements, or screen captures.
• We do not track activity on websites unrelated to Subtiltee, and we do not track shows or movies you watch without using Subtiltee on them.

What we DO track inside Subtiltee:

Once you have actively engaged Subtiltee on a piece of content, we record events that tell us which features are used and how well our conversion flow works — for example:

• Extension installs and updates.
• Which features you actually use (hover translation, chatbot, word definitions, subtitle search, rollback, auto-pause, adding tracks, marking words as known, etc.). For each event we attach the streaming platform you are on (e.g. "netflix") and basic context about the content you have chosen to study with Subtiltee — show title, season and episode number — so we can understand which content people learn from. Again: this only covers content you explicitly used Subtiltee on, never your general watching habits.
• Whether you saw a sign-in or upgrade prompt and whether you clicked it. This is essential for us to know if our pricing and onboarding work.
• After you sign in, your account email is used as the identifier for your events so we can connect your usage across the extension and the website. Before sign-in, you only have an anonymous identifier (a random string).

Why we collect this:

• To decide which features deserve more investment and which ones to remove.
• To detect when a feature stops working or has a usability problem.
• To understand the path from free user to subscriber so we can improve sign-up and onboarding.

This analytics data is for internal product development only. We never sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers or third parties.

Your rights:

• You can request a copy of the analytics events we hold for you by emailing us.
• You can request that we delete all analytics data linked to your account.
• If you enable Do Not Track (DNT) in your browser, our website analytics will respect it. If you would like to opt out of in-extension analytics specifically, contact us and we will remove your data and exclude your identifier from future collection.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely for:

• Processing your orders
• Managing your account and subscriptions
• Communicating with you about updates or important information related to Subtiltee

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. The only processors we rely on are our payment provider (for payments) and PostHog EU (for the analytics described above).

4. Children's Privacy

Subtiltee does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete such information.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

If we update our Privacy Policy, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account. Please review any updates carefully.
